Spring is the champion season for selling homes.

Gardens are at their peak in full bloom with blue, sunny skies offering the chance for brilliant marketing photos. The longer days and gorgeous weather encourage buyers to get outside, attend open homes, and find their perfect home.

Buyers are highly motivated to buy in springtime, looking to secure a property and move in before the busy end of the year hits. They want to be settled into their new home for Christmas, celebrating with family and friends.

In turn, this makes it equally as much a seller's market.

But, with so much competition from multiple sellers, you need to prepare your home the right way to help it stand out from the crowded marketplace.

How to maximise your home's appeal to potential spring home buyers

Although sales are stronger in the springtime, so is competition. Many buyers are looking to secure their perfect property and can be picky due to the larger number of homes available.

To be a savvy seller, you'll need to boost your home's appeal and make it have the 'Yes, I want this home' feeling.

And the more buyers interested in your home, the higher the price you'll receive!

Here are our top 7 tips for styling your property for spring selling success

  1. Do a total spring clean

If cleaning's not your thing, hire a professional cleaning company to get your house sparkling. Here's a guide:

  • Clean glass doors and windows (inside and out)
  • Clean dirt from window tracks (you'd be surprised how dirty they get!)
  • Wash material curtains or dust blinds
  • Remove cobwebs
  • Dust everything, then vacuum and mop
  • Clean (and polish) doorknobs, mirrors, switches & taps
  • Steam clean your carpets
  • Wipe down cupboards
  • Scrub tiles and grouting in showers and on the floor (replace if necessary)
  • Clean exhaust fans, ceiling fans and range hoods
  • Deep clean your oven and cooktop (people will look)

  1. Declutter your space

Buyers like to visualise themselves living in your home. If you've got stuff everywhere, you make it hard for the buyer to see your home as a blank canvas they can fit into.

Decluttering makes your interior spaces look roomier and helps your buyers to walk around freely. Pack away personal items and family photos, consider removing bulky furniture items, and ensure everything is put away before you host an open home.

  1. Consider a fresh coat of paint

If your walls look a bit old and marked, giving them a fresh coat of paint can make a world of difference to a buyer. Keep the colours neutral so buyers can paint over the wall if they choose to.

Make sure you do this a few weeks in advance, so the smell of paint has vanished by the time your buyers start coming through. You don't want buyers thinking you've covered something up on purpose!

  1. Do any repairs you've put off

Now's the time to fix leaky taps, replace blown light bulbs, tighten towel rails or door handles, repair broken tiles or appliances, loosen sticky doors etc.

You've probably got a to-do list where you mentally (or physically) write these chores down but never get around to it. It's these 'little things' that buyers will notice as they'll see it as work they need to do. Your job is to make buyers feel they can move straight in with nothing to do.

  1. Work on your street appeal and outdoor spaces

Never underestimate a buyer's decision to buy based on street appeal alone! Everyone wants that immaculate-looking home that's the envy of the street. With the gorgeous spring weather in full swing, they'll also pay close attention to outdoor living spaces.

  • Tidy up your garden, prune bushes and trees and remove weeds
  • Plant lots of colourful flowers (use pots to brighten patio areas)
  • Remove cobwebs
  • Sweep & pressure wash driveways, pathways and patios
  • Re-stain decking and repaint worn or cracked outdoor paint
  • Clean gutters
  • Clean pools, spas or ponds to have clean, sparkling water

  1. Make your home appear like a display home

Staging your property is guaranteed to impress buyers. If you've ever walked through a display home or flicked through a glossy home magazine, you'll know what a 'staged home' looks like. It's elegant, classy and super appealing.

You can do little touches like updating the towels on display, using high-quality bed linen, opening curtains to let in natural light, positioning freshly cut flowers etc.

Or the alternative…
